Arsenal look to repeat Martin Odegaard transfer masterstroke by signing £17m 'jewel'

The summer window may have only closed seventeen days ago, but the transfer links just keep on coming. This is especially the case for Arsenal, who will no doubt be a little frustrated with how things panned out ahead of deadline day.

Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira spearheaded ambitious plans to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad significantly, while departures such as Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Nicolas Pepe represented much-needed change with the future in mind.

Yet despite it being a successful summer overall, worrying gaps within the team remain and they have seen names continuously linked with the club as a result. It's believed that Arsenal's plans changed in the last 72 hours of the window following an injury to Mohamed Elneny, which saw him join Thomas Partey in the treatment room.

A new winger was originally the priority for Arteta and technical director Edu, with Pepe's loan move to Nice opening up the door for a replacement to be signed. football.london understands Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhaylo Mudryk was one of the names to be on the list and reports suggest that a formal bid is even thought to have been considered. However, as options in midfield narrowed down, it left the club little choice but to turn its attention elsewhere.

This led to three bids going in for Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz on deadline day, but again, Arsenal's luck ultimately ran out after all three offers were immediately rejected. Palmeiras talent Danilo was also monitored closely, though a deal was always expected to be tough to negotiate due to the Brazilian side's reluctance to sell. The Gunners could reignite interest again in January, football.london understands.

Saying that, another approach for Danilo - or Luiz - could be dependent on Arsenal's interest in Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Jesper Lindstrom, someone who the club is said to be 'crazy' about signing. Calciomercato claims Arsenal, along with six other European clubs including Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are interested in Lindstrom, who can operate as a No.6 and No.10 in midfield or on either flank.

It's also stated that the player is valued at around £17million by the Bundesliga side. Lindstrom completed a £6million move from Brondby last year, where he scored 15 goals and registered 15 assists across 65 appearances in all competitions. 21 of those goals and assists came in his final season as he helped them win the Danish Superliga title.

In his debut season for Frankfurt, the 22-year-old was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Season following five goals and five assists in 29 league appearances, while he provided a further four assists in the Europa League, a competition his side went on to win. As for this campaign, Lindstrom has already racked up three goals in 10 appearances.
