Arsenal legend Ray Parlour slams Tottenham star Cristian Romero over Harry Maguire taunt: ‘Bang out of order!’

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has hit out at Tottenham defender Cristian Romero for his taunting of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.

Argentine international Romero was seen on camera laughing and shouting in Maguire’s face after the England centre-back netted an unfortunate own goal to put Spurs back on level terms for a second time with less than 20 minutes to go during Saturday’s Premier League thriller at Old Trafford.

United would ultimately have the last laugh, with Cristiano Ronaldo completing a dazzling hat-trick - his first for the club in 14 years - late on to seal a morale-boosting 3-2 victory in the race for a top-four finish.

Romero’s actions drew criticism from the likes of Red Devils legend Roy Keane, who said on Sky Sports: “Not good. No, no, no. You get no luck for that. When you’re a player you take note, don’t worry. You take note of that.”

Former Arsenal favourite Parlour has now added his own rebuke of Tottenham’s summer signing, even claiming that in his day such behaviour would have resulted in swift retribution on the pitch.

“I think that’s bang out of order,” Parlour told talkSPORT. “I don’t think I’d do that. I know it’s a big game for both sides but come on.

“I don’t know the situation but you don’t need to do that. Just take the goal and run away and celebrate with your team-mates.

“I’m with Roy Keane. I’ll be waiting for him in the next game, do him – boff!

“You can take him out though! Go for a tackle and get a yellow card for it.

“Don’t do it 100 per cent, just take him out. I got brought up in an era where you do that – Martin Keown, Tony Adams – they know exactly who’s taking the mickey out of people and they do him.”
