Arsenal legend Ian Wright wants one thing after England reach Women's Euro 2022 final

Ian Wright has said that the legacy to the Women's Euro 2022 is of paramount importance after England's 4-0 win over Sweden in the semi-finals of Euro 2022.

The former Arsenal striker is a huge supporter of the women's game and was speaking on the BBC after the match in which England produced a stunning performance to beat the No.2 ranked side in the world.

Goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby saw the Lionesses through to their first major final since 2009, which will be held at Wembley on Sunday evening.

Wright is a regular pundit on the women's game and has called for a London 2012 style legacy in the wake of England's performance during the home tournament.

There have been obstacles in the past which have been faced by the women's game and Wright is calling for all barriers to be pulled down in the wake of a Euros which has seen huge crowds and record TV audiences.

Speaking on the BBC, Wright said: "Whatever happens in the final now, if girls are not allowed to play football just like the boys can in their PE after this tournament then what are we doing?

"We’ve got to make sure that they are able to play and they’ve got the opportunity to do this because it’s going to inspire a lot of people. Like there’s no legacy to this? It there’s no legacy after this then what are we doing?

"Girls should be able to play because this is as proud as I’ve felt of any England side. This is what it’s about." England will face either Germany or France in the final on Sunday night with the second semi-final taking place on Wednesday.
