Arsenal: Kai Havertz breaks silence on hamstring injury as he reveals new aim after surgery

Kai Havertz has confirmed he has undergone successful surgery on the hamstring injury that has ended his season.

Havertz has been ruled out until next season after tearing his hamstring when blocking a shot in training in Dubai.

The striker had an operation on Saturday and will now begin his rehab as he targets a return to full fitness in the summer.

Without Havertz, Arsenal beat Leicester 2-0 on Saturday when makeshift frontman Mikel Merino scored twice as the Gunners secured a crucial win in their pursuit of title rivals Liverpool.

In a post on his Instagram and Twitter accounts from his hospital bed, Havertz said: “The last few days have been tough to process both physically and mentally. But yesterday was a good day. A successful op and a win.

“Thanks for all the messages of support over the last few days, it’s really helped.

“I’m now focused on my journey to full fitness and giving all the support I can give to the team in the background.”

Havertz joins Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the sidelines, leaving Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri as the only fit forwards in the Arsenal squad.
