Arsenal join race as Liverpool 'target' warned transfer would be 'too dangerous'

Liverpool returned to Premier League action on Saturday and picked up a crucial three points against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Squad depth proved to be pivotal in the 1-0 win as manager Jurgen Klopp made five changes to the side that beat Villarreal 2-0 in the Champions League midweek. As the end of the season approaches, the Reds boss could look to add further additions to his team as they look to compete on all fronts for years to come.

With that being said, here is a round-up of all the latest transfer news and gossip from in and around Anfield.

Who?

Cody Gakpo

Dutch outlet PSV Fans

What?

Premier League side Arsenal have shown 'concrete' interest in rumoured Liverpool target Cody Gakpo, according to recent reports.

Outlet PSV Fans say the Gunners are ahead in the queue, although both the Reds and rivals Manchester City are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old. The Dutchman only recently signed a new contract at PSV and his current deal expires in 2026.

However, with 18 goals and 15 assists in all competitions so far this term, it's no surprise clubs across Europe have taken an interest. Ex-PSV coach Aad de Mos has urged the player to remain at the club for another year, he told Twee Viertje: " I think it would be too dangerous if he went now. If he ends up on the bench, he might miss the World Cup. I think he should stay another year."

Who?

Aurelien Tchouameni

Mundo Deportivo

What?

Liverpool 'can get in the way' of Real Madrid's approach for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo echo recent reports suggesting Jurgen Klopp is keen on a move for the 22-year-old and while the La Liga giants are in 'pole position' to land his signature, they go on to say Liverpool won't give up in their pursuit of the player. They add that a transfer battle between the two clubs could increase his value.

AS journalist, Sergio Santos reported earlier in the week that Real Madrid won't overpay for the French midfielder, who would initially be signed as a squad player.

Who?

Darwin Nunez

Where?

Journalist Fabrizio Romano

What?

Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Benfica this summer as European clubs circle, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

As part of the Portuguese club's 'revolution', PSV boss Roger Schmidt is expected to take over as manager at the end of the campaign and the Uruguayan will be a likely departure.

However, Romano adds that €75m may no longer be enough to sign the 22-year-old. A high fee could price Liverpool out of any move for Nunez, if they did hold an interest in the player.

The Reds are among the clubs rumoured to be interested in Nunez, as are Manchester United and Barcelona.
