Arsenal injury update: Gabriel, William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu latest news and return dates

Arsenal have fresh injury concerns as the Premier League title race run-in continues.

Gabriel became the latest player struck down with an issue when forced off in midweek as the Gunners beat Chelsea.

William Saliba had missed that game as a back injury continues to plague his fight to play again this season.

Two players who are not expected to feature again for some time are Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Here is your latest update of Arsenal injuries and return dates...

Gabriel

The Brazilian defender became Arsenal’s latest fitness concern after going down several times during the win over Chelsea, before eventually being substituted in the latter stages.

Mikel Arteta admitted his concern post-match and said: “He wasn’t comfortable, he tried for 15 minutes but he couldn’t carry on which was a concern.

“It was strange for Gabby as he is not usually one who wants to leave the pitch.”

However, Standard Sport understand the player is hopeful of proving his fitness in 48 hours before the game.

William Saliba

In midweek, Arteta said he didn’t know if Saliba will be back to face Newcastle but the prognosis is not good.

The centre-back made next to no progress on his recovery from a back injury the previous week, according to the Arsenal boss, and physios are determined not to rush him back at risk of aggravating the issue further.

“We will have to wait until the next game to see where we are, but he hasn’t improved this week at all,” Arteta stated.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

A return for pre-season may be beyond Tomiyasu as his recovery progresses on a serious knee injury.

Arteta’s latest update on the Japanese defender described his timeframe as potentially “six months”, which would take a bite into next season after his injury in March.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny is targeting a return to the Arsenal squad in pre-season following knee surgery in January.

The Egyptian recently travelled to the title clash at Manchester City, but only as a spectator.
