Arsenal injury news ahead of Liverpool as Mikel Arteta is boosted by five players returning

Arsenal were boosted by the return of five first team players in the North London Derby 3-1 win at the weekend.

Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney all picked up knocks whilst away on international duty but returned to the matchday squad at the weekend. Partey was left out of both games for Ghana as a 'precautionary measure' but was influential in helping the Gunners beat Spurs at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta was able to hand both Tierney and Zinchenko valuable minutes, along with Odegaard who did feature for Norway after declaring himself fit during the international break. Reiss Nelson picked up a muscle injury early on in the season but was an unused substitute in the win over Tottenham and could feature for Arsenal in the Europa League this week.

Here, football.london takes a look at the latest injury updates within the Arsenal squad.

Cedric Soares

Portuguese defender Cedric Soares was expected to feature in the Gunners' Europa League win over Zurich earlier in the month, but he picked up an injury in training.

He was expected to miss up to two weeks and return for the North London Derby, but he was absent from Arsenal's matchday squad. Cedric could be in line to feature for the clash against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, but Arteta could look to allow the Portuguese defender to build up his fitness with fixtures coming thick and fast.

Mohamed Elneny

The Egyptian midfielder is still recovering from a thigh injury picked up at the end of August. His return date is unknown but Mikel Arteta's midfield concerns have been eased by the return of Partey and Odegaard.

Reiss Nelson

Nelson returned to the matchday squad against Spurs and could make his first appearance of the season in the Europa League game against Bodo/Glimt.

Arteta now has the luxury to rotate his squad with Marquinhos and Nelson potentially coming in for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli ahead of a huge game against Liverpool this weekend.
