Arsenal injury hint emerges after Mikel Arteta suffers huge blow in Brighton defeat

Gabriel Martinelli was captured walking round the Emirates pitch in a protective boot after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion this evening.

Martinelli was substituted inside the opening 20 minutes with what looked like a suspected ankle injury. The Brazilian was replaced by Leandro Trossard on the left but the Belgian endured a torrid afternoon facing his former side for the first time since his £27 million move in January.

The Gunners' medical team had been keeping an eye on Martinelli just minutes before he was withdrawn after he gave them a 'thumbs up' when trying to sprint. Martinelli received treatment a few minutes earlier following a strong challenge from Arsenal target Moises Caicedo, with the 21-year-old's ankle appearing to get trapped underneath the sliding leg of the Ecuadorian.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, though, he was unable to continue and promptly headed straight down the tunnel after he was taken off and the winger now faces a fight to avoid missing the rest of the season with just two games remaining. Martinelli was captured on the bench in the second half and then seen walking around the turf post-match as Arsenal's title hopes were all but ended by the Seagulls.

The Gunners were beaten 3-0 by Roberto de Zerbi's men as Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan all got on the scoresheet in the second half. Manchester City now just need one win from their remaining three matches to guarantee their third Premier League title in a row following their 3-0 win at Everton earlier in the day.
