Arsenal inadvertently announce summer transfer as grand gesture comes back to bite them

Arsenal inadvertently announced the signing of Matt Turner as the club sent the keeper a wedding gift on his big day.

It's the worst kept secret that the Gunners have signed the New England Revolution keeper after agreeing a deal in January, but they have remained tight-lipped over an official announcement despite Turner himself along with the MLS club confirming the switch. football.london claims the north Londoners will look to officially unveil Turner in June as he flies over to complete a medical, but they may as well get it out the way now after unintentionally giving the game away by sending him a wedding gift.

The American posted an Instagram story from his wedding showing a bouquet of red and white flowers along with a card that came with it which reads: 'Congratulations on your wedding day! Best wishes, From everyone at Arsenal FC.'

The 27-year-old is expected to replace Bernd Leno in between the sticks who has fallen out of favour this season as Aaron Ramsdale emerged as the club's No.1. The report states that the former Bayer Leverkusen goalie will likely return to the Bundesliga this summer after expressing his frustrations about being dropped.

"It was a setback and a bitter moment," he told Spox, via Goal. "But that's sport, you have to accept that. It wasn't easy, but I couldn't feel sorry for myself. It was clearly communicated to me that it had nothing to do with my performance and was therefore difficult to accept at first.

"I had always played well in the years before and was hardly ever injured. That hits you hard. But as I said, there's no reason to feel sorry for yourself. You have to look ahead and keep working on yourself. That's what I did."

Will Matt Turner provide stiff competition for Aaron Ramsdale? Let us know in the comment section below

Turner doesn't officially count as Arsenal's first summer singing since a deal was struck in January, but it's set to kick start another busy window for the Gunners.

Asked if Arsenal will be active in the summer in terms of recruitment, Arteta said: "I am expecting so, yes. I think both competitions [the Champions League and Europa League] require a much larger squad because the amount of games you play is much bigger in both, so I don’t think [which you qualify for] makes a lot of difference or changes a lot.

"If you can financially afford it and we don’t have to do the turnaround in the squad that we’ve had to do, if you ask me what I want it’s 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers. You have to come a long way in the aspects that you see on the pitch, it’s a lot of things that have to be put in place, and that takes time."
