Arsenal have turned their attention to Manchester City's Oleksandr Zinchenko after missing out on Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.
The Gunners were interested in Martinez because of his ability to play multiple positions, namely central defence, left-back and defensive midfield. Mikel Arteta has problems on the left of the back four, with Kieran Tierney’s battles against injury causing issues in the previous campaign. Add to that the lack of left-sided centre-back options beyond Gabriel and it’s an area that needs addressing.
However, Erik ten Hag's plan to play the 24-year-old in his more natural centre-back position is why the Red Devils are the Argentine's preferred destination.

Now, as per the Athletic, after accepting defeat in the race to sign Martinez, the Gunners have turned their attention to Man City star, Zinchenko. Having already recruited Gabriel Jesus from the Premier League champions this summer, the north London outfit are aiming to bring the Brazilian's former team-mate to the Emirates.
The report states that the clubs are in contact over a potential transfer and it's believed that City are open to sanctioning the 25-year-old’s exit for the right fee.
Like Jesus, Arteta worked with Zinchenko during his time as Pep Guardiola's assistant coach at the Etihad Stadium. They're known to maintain a strong relationship and the Spaniard is keen on reuniting with the versatile defender.
