Arsenal handed unique incentive to delay announcement for imminent £7.5m summer transfer

It's now only a matter of time before Matt Turner's £7.5m Arsenal transfer is made official and it could be a double celebration for the goalkeeper if the move is announced on Friday.

In what is possibly the worst-kept transfer secret in the world, the Gunners have already have an agreement for United States international with the move being confirmed by Major Soccer League (MLS) New England Revolution months ago. But as reported by football.london, the plan has been to confirm the deal when he flies over to complete a medical.

And going by the timeline that Turner himself revealed last month, the USMNT stopper is due to join his pregnant wife in London anytime now - although he can't be registered until July 1 - to undergo all the formalities such as undergoing a medical and signing a contract to officially become an Arsenal player.

As explained by Turner, his final game for New England Revolution before flying to the UK was on June 19 and despite not featuring in their 2-1 win over Minnesota on Sunday evening he was afforded a chance to bid farewell to the club he's made over 100 appearances for.

"Walking over to the fans, the gift they gave me with the flag signed by all the supporters was just truly so special. Something I'll cherish for the rest of my life, for sure," he said, as per CBS News. "The signs that kids were holding up, saying that they play goalkeeper because of me, it's just ... in a competitive market like New England where you have, the football team's great and super popular.

"Basketball team's great, popular. Same with baseball and hockey. For me to have an influence on a few of the youth is just truly spectacular. And I think that that's what really got me. Because I always looked up to people, and the fact that people look up to me is especially here it's amazing. It's amazing and I'm glad I could leave my mark in that sense."

Turner may have already endeared himself to the Arsenal faithful by ignoring a Tottenham Hotspur shirt whilst he was signing autographs following the game and that one moment just might build even more excitement for his unveiling - which could be later this week.

If the Gunners are planning to confirm the 27-year-old as their latest summer signing this week, they have been handed the perfect day to do just that. Friday June 24 happens to be Turner's birthday, so what better way for the goalkeeper to celebrate turning 28 than by completing his move to one of the biggest teams in Europe in addition?

A player signing for a new club on their birthday doesn't happen too often in football - if it ever has happened - so Arsenal have the incentive to do something rather unique with Turner but on the one condition that they delay any announcement until Friday if all the aforementioned formalities are completed beforehand.
