Arsenal handed surprise January transfer boost with Man Utd to complete shock Wout Weghorst deal

Arsenal may have been handed a huge boost in the January transfer window thanks to Premier League rivals Manchester United. It comes as the Red Devils have made an approach for Burnley striker Wout Weghorst on loan for the remainder of the season, as per reports from the BBC.

The Netherlands international has spent the campaign so far on loan with Turkish side Besiktas, scoring eight goals in his time at the club. However, an exit seems even more likely after his latest goal on Saturday saw him wave to the fans while seemingly saying "bye bye".

"There is a reason [Anthony Martial has been substituted in his last seven games]. It is because he cannot manage the load. This is why we are looking for another striker," United boss Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports News, hinting at transfer activity in January.

However, the move for Weghorst may well have handed the Gunners a huge boost in their pursuit of another transfer target in the coming weeks. That being the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season, with the Portuguese forward set for an exit.

Arsenal are said to be battling the Red Devils for the 23-year-old, however United's move for Weghorst may have seen them go for a cheaper option for their budget as well as a completely different profile of player. CBS Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that the current financial package to sign Felix on loan is currently too high for both United and the Gunners though.

However, Arsenal are scheduling new talks with Felix's agent Jorge Mendes to work a deal out, hopeful that a £70million buy option could be inserted too. It could see them land an ideal replacement to Gabriel Jesus for a bargain price ahead of their near rivals too.
