Arsenal handed major transfer boost as Ian Wright's dream signing could cost just £12m

Reported Arsenal transfer target Djed Spence may cost just £12million to sign this summer, if recent reports are to be believed.

football.london understands that the Gunners may look to sign a right-back at the end of the current campaign, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Hector Bellerin both expected to leave permanently. One name that has been constantly linked is Middlesbrough's Spence, who is currently enjoying a productive loan spell with fellow Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

Some reports had indicated that the 21-year-old would cost more than £20million but The Evening Standard have now claimed that sources close to the situation believe he could cost somewhere between £12million and 15million, a solid price considering the way he has played for Forest this term. In fact, Spence delivered an exceptional display against Mikel Arteta's side in the FA Cup back in January, when the north Londoners were defeated 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Lewis Grabban.

Arsenal hero Ian Wright was thoroughly impressed by Spence that day, heaping praise on the youngster's all-action display. Speaking on the Wrighty's House podcast, he said: "I saw him after the game and said 'listen, my friend.

"You're on loan from Middlesbrough and I don't know what's happened there, because if you can't get into the Middlesbrough side, I don't know what's wrong, so I need to know the full story.

"But let me say, that was one of the best right-back performances I have seen for a very long time. A very long time. If we are talking about right-backs performing at an unbelievable level, we're talking Reece James and Trent (Alexander-Arnold).

"But I have not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time. I said to him afterwards, 'whatever's happening, whatever you're doing, the level you've just shown us here is the level you have to be consistently hitting, Djed'."
