Arsenal handed major Premier League title boost as national media react to huge Chelsea win

Arsenal returned to winning way on Tuesday night as they put a run of four games without a victory behind them to beat London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. A strike from captain Martin Odegaard opened the scoring before he quickly doubled the lead inside the opening moments of the first half.

Gabriel Jesus added his name to the scoresheet when he managed to control a loose ball in the box and slot it home beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga. There were signs of life from a limp away side though as Noni Madueke pulled a goal back and then continued to threaten after.

But in the end, it was too little too late for the Blues as the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners and reclaimed their spot at the top of the Premier League. As usual, the national media reacted to the performance and have had their say on how Arsenal performed in the clash.

The Mirror

The Mirror have framed Arsenal's win over Chelsea as a huge boost to their title chances, giving them an outside shot of winning the league this season.

The report says: "It was the perfect way to get their campaign back on track and though they are outsiders in the title race, this win will give them a boost. Their challenge will now be to replicate Tuesday's performance, with City still having two games in hand over them."

The Guardian

The Guardian also mentioned the theme of Arsenal's hopes in the title race, but put it down to how poor their rivals Chelsea are.

The report reads: "Arteta’s men kept up their side of the bargain, moving back to the top of the table, two points clear of City, having played two matches more, although to have failed to beat this Chelsea team would have been an abdication.

"Frank Lampard’s visitors were almost implausibly bad in the first half. Then again, it has all been too believable for their supporters of late. Arsenal were 3-0 up after 34 minutes, the game over."

The Telegraph

The Telegraph claimed that Arsenal took much of their recent title frustration on Chelsea, saying: "In contrast to Chelsea’s aimlessness, Arsenal came into the night with one idea: returning to the top of the table.

"The accusations of “bottling” the league title have not sat well with Mikel Arteta’s players and they treated Chelsea as their punchbag for much of the night."
