Arsenal handed major Cody Gakpo boost as PSV explore transfer alternative

Arsenal have been handed a major Cody Gakpo boost as PSV are reportedly chasing his replacement.

As per VI, 19-year-old attacker Joelson Fernandes is firmly on PSV's radar. With Gakpo leaving a very real possibility, the Dutch outfit are looking at potential alternatives and the Portuguese youngster is at the very top of their wish list.

That bodes well for Arsenal, who have been strongly linked with a move for the promising Gakpo. The Dutch international has established himself as one of Eredivisie's most promising attackers, netting and his talent hasn't gone unnoticed, with the Gunners interested in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium, football.london understands.

And in more good news for the Gunners, he's already admitted that he's considering his options ahead of the new season. Speaking to De Telegraaf, via Insidefutbol, last month, he said: “Anything can happen this summer.

“I will now calmly compare all the options and see what is best for me. Staying another is also an option.

“It would be a shame if I went somewhere where I wouldn’t get a job at all and I could miss the World Cup. I’ll keep that in mind.”

Gakpo has also previously heaped praise on the Premier League's quality, even admitting that he likes Arsenal a lot. "The Premier League is a big league," he told The Sun earlier this year.

"Virgil van Dijk plays there with Liverpool so I like to watch them. We are not the same kind of league but I think we try to look at the Prem and learn about it. Everybody wants to play one time in the Prem. I don’t favour one team but I like Arsenal a lot.

"I looked up to [Thierry] Henry when I was younger because he was a tall guy who played on the wing."
