Arsenal handed major Andrea Belotti transfer boost as Edu looks for alternative attacking target

Arsenal are could be set to strengthen their attack further by signing Italy international Andrea Belotti on a free transfer this summer.

Belotti is now a free agent after leaving Torino following the expiry of his contract with the Serie A outfit. The 28-year-old was tipped to make a move to the Premier League last year but opted to stay with Torino for one final season, but now enters free agency and is able to discuss a contract with any interested parties.

The Gunners, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been linked with the Italian forward who scored eight goals in 23 appearances last term after struggling with injuries throughout the 2022/23 campaign. Eddie Nketiah is currently Arsenal's only senior striker at the club, though the north Londoners are expected to announce the signing of Gabriel Jesus in the coming days after agreeing a £45million deal with Manchester City for the Brazilian.

Belotti reportedly refused multiple new contract offers from Torino in favour of entering free agency, with the Italian now searching for a new club. Arsenal could take advantage of the opportunity to bring Belotti to the Emirates on a free transfer, with the 28-year-old being a proven goal scorer and being able to be approached directly without paying a transfer fee.

Belotti joined Torino from Palermo for a minimal fee of £5million back in 2015 and has spent the last seven years at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. The Italy international scored 113 goals in 251 appearances for the Serie A side, averaging just shy of a goal every two games for Torino.

The Gunners have been linked with Belotti's international teammate Gianluca Scamacca to strengthen Arteta's attacking options ahead of next season. Belotti would offer quality cover in attack with Jesus expected to come in and be the starting striker for Arteta's side.

Eddie Nketiah's new contract means Belotti would compete with the 22-year-old as Jesus' backup, being rotated in-and-out of the side for cup competitions, whilst still being given plenty of first team opportunities throughout the season.
