Arsenal handed huge Ruben Neves transfer boost as Man United open ‘talks’ to sign midfielder

Arsenal have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit to land Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves over rivals Manchester United this summer. It comes ahead of a huge summer for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping to recreate last year’s summer transfer window, where he spent over £140million in transforming his squad. In doing so, the Gunners were far more competitive, but missed out on the top four.

This window now offers the Spaniard the chance to repeat the feat and finally return to the Champions League. “We are going to have certain resources, not unlimited resources, some resources,” he said on the upcoming challenges. “And with our resources we have to play and do what we have to do in the best possible way.

“We don't know what the rest are going to have in terms of resources, which I'm assuming is going to be challenging because now it's not a top three or top four league. Now it is a top eight or 10 teams that are involved. That's why we have to find a way to do again what we did last summer.”

Neves is one of the midfielders linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, with Arteta looking to improve upon the depth in the centre of the park. However, Manchester United are also linked with a move, creating a potential bidding war.

That may be less of a problem though as Fabrizio Romano reports that the Red Devils have held talks for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. They are said to have made an opening bid, with Erik ten Hag looking to make signings to improve the squad in his image.

That may be a potential boost for the Gunners in their pursuit of the Portuguese international, giving them a clear run at a transfer.
