Arsenal given Youri Tielemans January transfer update amid uncertainty over Barcelona stance

Youri Tielemans' transfer saga is continuing to take further twists as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed reports that the Leicester City midfielder has an "agreement" over his next club are false. The Belgian enters the final six months of his deal at the King Power Stadium next month and faces further uncertainty over his future.

The 25-year-old is set to become a free agent next summer after reportedly turning down a number of renewals in the east Midlands. Tielemans has been linked with a switch to Arsenal for over a year now after being identified as an ideal addition to Mikel Arteta's squad.

football.london understands that the midfield remains an area in which the Gunners are key to strengthen to bolster the options in the middle of the park. After failing with a late move for Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz in the summer, Brazilian starlet Danilo has joined Tielemans as the two likely reinforcements at the Emirates Stadium.

With the bookmakers marking Arsenal as favourites, Marca claimed over the weekend that Spanish giants Barcelona had pulled out of the race for Tielemans due to them suspecting he had an "agreement" with another club. The news hinted that the future of the midfielder had been decided, however, Romano has rubbished those claims as we edge closer to the January transfer window.

Writing for CaughtOffside, Romano said: "Youri Tielemans has not given his word to any club, yet. It’s still open and he will decide at the right moment.”

Tielemans is due to join back up with his Leicester teammates this week after having his World Cup campaign ended earlier than imagined. Belgium were passive throughout the tournament and failed to qualify from a group that included Canada, Morocco and Croatia.
