The Metropolitan Police are said to be 'comfortable' that Arsenal 's Europa League group stage game against PSV goes ahead on Thursday evening.
It comes after the tragic death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96, with all Premier League matches across the weekend postponed. The English and Welsh FA's decisions cover all football matches under their control, from the top-flight to grassroots, while the Scottish FA said only professional games would be affected.
There are concerns too that next weekend's matches could be disrupted due to policing issues around the Queen's funeral. However, Arsenal are due to be in action before when they face PSV at the Emirates Stadium.
And according to the Evening Standard, the game is expected to be played as scheduled as the Met Police have indicated during discussions that they are comfortable with the match taking place. Official confirmation is expected over the weekend to ensure supporters are aware of what is taking place.
The announcement of the Queen's passing came at half-time in Arsenal's win at FC Zurich on Thursday. The Arsenal players returned for the second half with black armbands on as a mark of respect, while both sets of players observed in a minutes' silence before play resumed.
It was a hard-earned win for the Gunners in the end, with Mikel Arteta's men striking first through Marquinhos before being pegged back through Mirlind Kryeziu's 44th minute penalty. But the Gunners stepped it up a gear after the break and scored the winner as Eddie Nketiah headed home his first goal of the season.
This wasn't the only European game to go ahead involving an English club, as Manchester United and West Ham United played despite the Queen's death just 90 minutes before kick-off. The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat against Real Sociedad thanks to Brias Mendez's second-half penalty, while West Ham were 3-1 winners over RSCB in the Europa Conference League, with Jarrod Bowen, Emerson and Michael Antonio on target.
No matches will go ahead this weekend after the Premier League's announcement. Chief executive Richard Masters said: "We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country.
"As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication. This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing."
Manchester City's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund is also expected to go ahead as planned on Wednesday.
