Arsenal given Gianluca Scamacca transfer boost after replacement signed as PSG present new issue

Arsenal have been handed a boost should they step up their attempts to sign Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo. In preparation for the Italian’s potential departure, the Serie A side have secured his possible replacement.

Arsenal are looking to replace Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who have both since left the Gunners. It has left a major void in the attacking line, and it appears the Gunners see Gianluca Scamacca as an alternative to priority target Gabriel Jesus.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Penarol striker Agustin Alvarez has agreed and signed a deal with Sassuolo. The Uruguayan is just two years younger than Scamacca although has scored just one goal and chipped in with one further assist in 14 Primera Division appearances.

Although Arsenal appear to have been aided by this move, there are issues with securing a deal for Scamacca a reality. The first is indecision on the Gunners’ part about the striker.

The Athletic reported that individuals within the club have not been sold on the possibility of signing someone of Scamacca’s profile. The 6’5 forward is considerably different to priority target Jesus, and his traits may not be suited to the way Arsenal currently play.

Furthermore, According to Tutto Mercato, PSG are 'serious' about signing Sassuolo striker and Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca. They're willing to more than triple his current salary and would be able to offer Champions League football that the Gunners currently cannot.

It is clear that Mikel Arteta needs to find the players that will improve the club in the attack. However, the longer that the club struggles to secure Jesus, potential alternatives such as Scamacca will not be waiting on ice for the north London side to go from plan A to B, to C, and so on.

Ruthlessness has been lacking from Arsenal’s approach to their recruitment over the last decade. Failing to change this trend will leave them starting the new season on the back foot once again.
