Arsenal finally offload Matteo Guendouzi as permanent transfer exit confirmed

Matteo Guendouzi 's Arsenal career is over after agreeing to sign for Marseille on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old has spent this season on loan with the French giants and will officially become their player in the summer transfer window for a reported £9million.

Guendouzi is set to sign a three-year contract with Marseille in June, keeping him at the Stade Velodrome until 2025.

The move was announced by Marseille president Pablo Longoria on an RMC Sport show, confirming that the midfielder had met clauses in his loan deal.

Guendouzi has racked up 38 appearances in all competitions over the course of the current campaign and made himself an integral part of manager Jorge Sampaoli 's team.

The Frenchman was signed by Arsenal as a 19-year-old in July 2018 for a fee believed to be in the region on £8million, instantly becoming a favourite under Unai Emery and emerging as prominent figure in his first season.

But his career with the Gunners hit the rocks under Mikel Arteta, who shipped him out on loan to Hertha Berlin last term.

Guendouzi struggled to make an impression in the German capital but has been revitalised in the Riviera, scoring his fourth goal in a recent Europa Conference League clash with Qarabag.

The youngster was often criticised for his apparent poor attitude prior to joining Marseille but Sampaoli has been impressed with his maturity and leadership since.

"Aside from his youth, Matteo has a particular energy. He has a desire to win and he's a natural leader. We imagined that would be the case but that it would happen over time," the Argentine tactician explained in January.

"Seeing this in addition to his performances, we have an energy that everyone can envy. It's contagious and it's a very important value in life.

"Experience is important for everyone but, for young people, sometimes difficult events are not good experiences. There's also personal capacity on the mental side. Guendouzi, for example, he's 22-years-old but he acts like he's 30.

"The most important thing is maturity."

And that could well be down to Guendouzi's respect for his employer, telling Onze Mondial magazine in an interview last year: "OM are the biggest French club.

"They have won the Champions League. They have a great history. They have the most fervent support in France, maybe even on the whole continent.

"I like playing in a full stadium and feeling the love of the supporters for the club. That is what I have found here and I have not enjoyed myself this much anywhere else since the start of my career."
