England exited the 2022 Qatar World Cup at the quarter-final stage after losing 2-1 to world champions France. Olivier Giroud's second half header secured France's spot in the semi-finals after Harry Kane had cancelled out Aurelien Tchouameni's opener.
The England captain had a second opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot, but blazed his effort from 12 yards well over the target. Gareth Southgate's side were the better team but France ultimately took their chances and condemned England to another heart-breaking major tournament knockout exit.
While it may be the final World Cup for Jordan Henderson or Kyle Walker, there is an abundance of young English players who will likely be in their prime years by the time 2026 World Cup arrives.

Declan Rice, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka will all likely be at the peak of their powers, but there is perhaps one specific player destined for a great future. Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham was an integral part of England's campaign as the 19-year-old scored in the win over Iran and set up Henderson for his goal against Senegal.
The teenager's future at Dortmund seems to be nearing an end with Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid the favourites to land his signature while Manchester City and Arsenal are also in the race.
Many of the England stars seem to have developed a strong relationship with Bellingham in Qatar with Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold often labelled as 'agents' trying to ensure Bellingham joins Liverpool.
Arsenal fans have also given the nickname to Ben White after it appeared the duo were quite close and the same has been done again after what Aaron Ramsdale did to Bellingham following England's defeat to France.
Ramsdale was pictured holding Bellingham who was clearly extremely upset following the result with one Arsenal fan tagging the image on reddit 'Agent Ramsdale strategically consoling Jude Bellingham'.
