Arsenal fans spot Mikel Arteta’s private chat during Oleksandr Zinchenko unveiling

Eagle-eyed Arsenal fans tuning in for the unveiling of Oleksandr Zinchenko spotted manager Mikel Arteta having a private chat with defender Gabriel.

Ukraine international Zinchenko joined the Gunners for an initial £30m, reuniting with Mikel Arteta after the pair worked together at Manchester City. He is the club's fifth summer arrival after Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Gabriel Jesus.

The left-sided player made his debut in a weekend friendly against Chelsea, while the club have released footage from his unveiling. However, while plenty of the focus was on the new arrival in the foreground, others took notice of what was going on elsewhere in the frame.

Arteta can be seen sat on a ball opposite an Arsenal player, having a private one-to-one. Later, in a social media post from club photographer Stuart MacFarlane, the player was shown to be Gabriel.

The Brazil international defender will be one of those most closely impacted by Zinchenko's arrival, whether the Ukrainian plays at left-back or on the left of the midfield pivot. The new signing started in defence against Chelsea, with Kieran Tierney not fit to play, with Gabriel the left-sided centre-back.

Arsenal's entire defensive set-up is changing this season. William Saliba has returned from his successful loan at Marseille, slotting in alongside Gabriel at the weekend, while Pablo Mari is expected to move on after ending last season on loan at Udinese.

"I would say it’s the most important role in my decision because I’ve known Mister [Arteta] for a while, I used to work with him at Manchester City," Zinchenko told Arsenal's official site. "Since the first day at City I knew that he’s going to be a very good manager.

"The way we were working together, I was so impressed because I remember how many times we were working hard in the training sessions and then straight after with individual stuff and I took a lot from the manager and I hope I can take even more."

Zinchenko, along with Saliba, was handed special praise by the manager for his part in the Chelsea friendly. Goals from Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Albert Sambi Lokonga gave the Gunners a 4-0 victory over their rivals to build confidence going into the new season.

""He was desperate to play and I knew that. It was a maximum 45 minutes but you could see straight away he was comfortable," the manager said. "He understands everything that I want, he understands the process and I thought he had a really good game."
