Arsenal fans pounce on Hale End star's tweet after shock Liverpool claim during Southampton loss

Arsenal fans voiced their frustrations at Folarin Balogun following the youngster's surprise tweet during their 1-0 defeat to Southampton.

The Gunners endured a difficult afternoon at St. Mary's Stadium, with Polish defender Jan Bednarek netting the only goal of the game - scoring from a corner in the first half. Mikel Arteta's side struggled to create meaningful openings, with Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster producing a number of excellent stops to deny the visitors.

The result makes a top-four finish even more unlikely for the north Londoners, who find themselves three points behind local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the current standings. Still, supporters took to social media to criticise Hale End academy graduate Balogun after the England Under-21 international tweeted about the FA Cup clash between Liverpool and Manchester City during Arsenal's defeat.

The youngster was clearly impressed by the Reds, Tweeting: "Thiago", accompanied by a smoke emoji. Here is what a select few replied.

@BurnerJG: "Brother your football team is playing?"

@Amooiodi: "I cant blame you Balo Our team is bland."

@_camaza: "Your team is playing bro…"

@charlesfc_: "Trying to figure out how he thought this would be a good tweet while Arsenal are losing."

@NLisAlwaysRed: "Hoping you’ve got 2 screens bro! Not that you’re missing much the way we’re playing but still…"

@sellKante_: "Arsenal are playing and mans focussing on Liverpool."

@SalibaEra_: "Bro, Arsenal is playing but it is allowed, Arsenal is playing some boring football, i am almost sleeping."

Balogun is currently on loan with Championship outfit Middlesbrough, where he has netted three goals and provided a further two assists since joining in January.
