Arsenal fans agree with Thierry Henry on Mikel Arteta's mission to secure top four finish

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry split opinion in the Arsenal fan-base this week with his comments that should Mikel Arteta's side fail to finish in the top four this season it would be seen as a failure.

As it stands the Gunners sit four points behind 4th placed Manchester United in 6th, with three games in hands on the Red Devils - albeit those games in hand are against Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham respectively.

So, whilst the north Londoners are mathematically sitting in a good place to aim for that fabled final Champions League spot, they certainly have their work cut out to make it a reality.

Recently, football.london asked Arsenal fans their opinions on the season so far, and what would constitute a successful season for Mikel Arteta - so let's delve into the opinions.

First of all, it is clear that there has been a change of expectation as the season has progressed compared to before the opening fixture.

Of fans that were asked whether Arsenal are exceeding their expectations compared to when the season began, 60.9% answered yes, with 32.7% saying no, and 6.4% saying the team are doing worse than they expected.

This despite the fact, that when asked to rate the season out of 5 so far the average answer was 3 - though this may reflect the disappointing cup exits rather than league form.

Where Arsenal fans do agree with club record scorer Henry however, is the hope an expectation of a top-four finish.

Over 66% of voters believe that only a top four or higher finish would reflect a good season for Mikel Arteta, clearly echoing Henry's thoughts that finishing outside the Champions League spots would be a failure from this point.

So, expectations are high for the rest of the season in terms of results and the Gunners will be striving to reach a competition they haven't played in since 2017.

What will happen regardless of where they finish this summer however is some long overdue renovations on the Emirates Stadium.

You can vote in the survey below what you think the priorities should be and your general thoughts on the Emirates.

Be sure to leave a comment on your thoughts on Henry's comments and the top 4 race, and whether you agree with those who voted on the minimum expectations for the rest of the season.
