Arsenal facing nightmare Champions League scenario if Harry Kane is granted Tottenham transfer

For many connected to Arsenal Football Club, the possibility of Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer can be regarded as a positive.

The England international is widely regarded as one of the best centre-forwards in Europe let alone the Premier League and is on the radar of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich as they seek a focal point in attack a year removed from Robert Lewandowski's move to Barcelona.

It's understood that Bayern have lodged an €80million (£68.3million) bid for Kane, which also includes add-ons, although media in Germany did concede they were not expecting the bid to be accepted whilst new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed he's held talks with his star striker with regards to his future.

Now, from an Arsenal perspective, Kane leaving would be beneficial for multiple reasons perhaps none more so than it leaving their north London rivals in a weaker position and thus increasing the chances of celebrating St Totheringham's Day once again next season having ended a six-year wait in the most recent campaign.

However, if the 29-year-old were to swap the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Allianz Arena then he could be on course to haunt the Gunners next season - but this time in the Champions League and potentially in the group stage if Mikel Arteta's side don't get the luck of the draw.

Having lost the battle with Manchester City with regard to winning the Premier League title last season and despite their rather low position on the UEFA Club coefficients rankings table, Arsenal will be in Pot 2 when the draw for the Champions League group phase is made at the end of August.

This means that aside from Man City they can be drawn against any of the other seven teams in Pot 1 which includes Bayern Munich after they pipped Borussia Dortmund to the Bundesliga crown on the final day of last season. Therefore, a swift return to north London would be on the cards for Kane in this scenario if he does make the move.

And considering his goalscoring record against Arsenal - 14 in 19 appearances across all competitions - perhaps supporters will not be too happy if a summer transfer does materialise as he would immediately threaten any hopes of reaching the round of 16 and avoiding a return to the Europa League.

But will Kane leave for Germany? Well, football.london have recently reported that the Spurs have offered their all-time top goalscorer, who turns 30 this month, the opportunity to discuss a huge new contract in order to stay beyond his current deal which ends in 2024.

In addition, Kane is believed to be in no rush though to commit to a new deal during this transfer window while he assesses what the future holds. But what's for sure is by the time September 1 comes around Arsenal will have a clearer picture as to when they'll next encounter the striker.
