Arsenal face transfer decision as Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag makes Youri Tielemans gesture

Leicester City star Youri Tielemans has long been a transfer target for Arsenal.

The Gunners are likely to refresh their midfield options this summer, with Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Jorginho 29 years old, 30 and 31 respectively. Tielemans certainly represents a cheap option considering his contract at the King Power ends at the end of the current campaign, although a number of Premier League clubs are said to be chasing his signature.

Manchester United have been linked with the Belgian international and some fans theorised that United are keen on a move after their manager Erik ten Hag patted the player on the back before he came on as a substitute during Sunday's match between the Red Devils and Leicester.

Arsenal were keen to bring in a midfielder during the January transfer window and Tielemans was of course linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium. However, football.london reported that the north Londoners' interest in the former Monaco man had cooled. West Ham United captain Declan Rice is instead the club's summer transfer priority and the England international is said to be keen to play for Mikel Arteta.

It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal's interest could be revived this summer but the 25-year-old's recent performances have done little to suggest that he would help drastically improve their midfield. Tielemans' lack of athleticism would likely be a concern for Arteta, who has already got the aforementioned Jorginho and Xhaka as options, with both players lacking physical attributes that the likes of Rice and Partey possess.

It could therefore make a lot more sense to allow Tielemans to join a team like United instead, who may be more in need of his kind of profile.
