Arsenal face Man United again in striker battle after Gunners lose out on Lisandro Martinez move

Arsenal and Manchester United have a rivalry that has been the centre of many great battles. Through the early days of the Premier League, both clubs often clashed for supremacy and had many matches to remember.

In recent years, that hasn’t been the case as much, with the two giants of English football losing out to newer powers in the game. This has resulted in them searching for answers after the likes of Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson left from their long reign.

Plenty of rebuilding has had to take place as they look to climb back towards the very top. So while the two teams aren’t producing the same clashes on the field that they once were, the battles off of it has made for intriguing viewing.

The most recent of which was for the signature of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. The Argentina international can play a number of positions across the back four and in midfield, making him an attractive prospect.

While Arsenal were the first team to register concrete interest, they lost out to Manchester United, who saw the 24-year-old reunite with new manager Erik ten Hag. It has forced the Gunners to look at other targets, with an agreement in place to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City at roughly £30million.

While they may have lost out on the first transfer race with their Premier League counterpart, Mikel Arteta could be set to face them once again. That’s because, according to mediafoot, the Spaniard is interested in a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

The 26-year-old is also of interest to Manchester United, following a season where he scored 22 goals in 36 appearances. While Gabriel Jesus has already switched the Etihad for the Emirates, Dembele could prove a very useful option in the squad.

As for United, their need for a striker is greater, providing a potential blow if the Frenchman moves to north London instead.
