Arsenal could face competition in the pursuit of two long-term targets in January after reports claimed Liverpool and Chelsea hold an interest in Douglas Luiz and Leandro Trossard, respectively.
The Gunners attempted to sign Luiz on deadline day but were unsuccessful in their attempts after having three bids rejected for the Brazilian. Mikel Arteta and Edu are admirers of the midfielder, who was under consideration back in January this year. The 24-year-old has been monitored closely since and a deal for him could be revisited in the new year to see if Aston Villa have softened their stance.
However, they may not be alone as The Express claims Jurgen Klopp's side also registered an interest in the summer like Arsenal and could target him again during the winter window, despite signing Juventus' Arthur Melo on loan. Meanwhile, another Premier League rival in the form of Chelsea could prove to be a problem if Arteta decides to target a new winger.

That's because former Dutch player Johan Boskamp told Voetbal Primeur that he believes new Blues boss Graham Potter may want to reunite with Trossard at Stamford Bridge as soon as January. "Under Potter, he (Trossard) grew into a strong holder in the Premier League," Boskamp said. "Hopefully, he will stay that way under his successor. I’m not too worried because his form will last. Maybe Potter will come and get him during the winter."
Like Luiz, Trossard is another name admired in north London after he was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in 2019 prior to joining Brighton & Hove Albion, where he has since become one of their most important players. Arteta is believed to have been keen on bringing in another wide forward following the loan departure of Nicolas Pepe, but injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny saw plans change at the last moment.
The Belgian international finds himself in exactly the same boat as Luiz, with both players now into the final twelve months of their contracts, which makes them an attractive option for any club looking to strengthen.
After racking up 20 goals and 13 assists in England, Trossard offers plenty of attacking quality that would no doubt boost Arsenal's frontline, but technical director Edu may need to act swiftly if the long-term interest is taken any further.
