Arsenal face anxious wait on Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey injuries

Arsenal fear that Kieran Tierney's season could be over after the left back missed Monday night's defeat to Crystal Palace with a knee injury.

The Scotland international will see a specialist on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury, as concerns grow that the 24-year-old could be out for a long period.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was forced to play Nuno Tavares in the absence of Tierney, with the Portuguese being hauled off on 45 minutes after a below-par performance.

Arteta admitted after the game that the general feeling from Tierney about his injury 'wasn't really positive'.

“He is seeing the specialist tomorrow and we will know more the extent of the injury,” said Arteta.

“But the feeling that he had it wasn’t really positive and what the scans showed either, but we have to wait and see what happens.”

Partey is set to go for scans this week after suffering a thigh injury in the same place he got injured previously.

football.london understands that Partey was already suffering from fatigue after his international travails with Ghana, and pulled up before Palace scored their third goal.

“He felt something in the same area that he got injured previously, so big concern,” said Arteta.

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher has urged Arteta's side to put Monday night's result behind the game and focus on the remaining games of the season.

“It’s a bad night for Arsenal, the way they’ve lost, not just the three points," Carragher said, speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.

"But I think it’s very important that they don’t panic and there’s no hysteria, they are still in a really good position, a better position than Tottenham and Manchester United."

"They’ve just won five games away on the bounce, so you’re talking 15 points out of eighteen away from home, they’d have took that when the six games were there away from home. So yeah it was a bad one, the worry is this could happen another two or three times when other teams take encouragement the way Palace played, and I think it will be a real big boost for Tottenham or Manchester United tonight. Not just them dropping points but the way that they’ve lost but I do think it's important that they don’t panic.”
