Arsenal eye former Manchester City and Barcelona defender as FFP impacts transfer chase

Full focus at Arsenal will be on the final nine games of the Premier League season as the side look to secure their first title win in years. However, even aside from Mikel Arteta's heroics on the pitch this campaign, there will be full hope that the Gunners will be regular challengers across all competitions for years to come.

That means continuing to make correct decisions across the whole club, including those in the transfer market when that reopens in the summer. Sporting director Edu has made a habit of landing the targets that have seen Arsenal propel their way to the top, with plenty more in store in the coming months.

"It’s already started because you know what’s happening in the market everybody is doing stuff," the Brazilian told football.london of Arsenal's preparation for the summer. "You have to plan with people as well just to be prepared so when you go again in the summer you are very prepared."

Plenty of links continue to arise over which targets could be on the shortlist ahead of the summer window, one of which is to former Manchester City and Barcelona defender Eric Garcia. Mundo Deportivo reports that the Spanish international is of interest to the Gunners, with the youngster struggling to break into the side at the Camp Nou.

Fabrizio Romano claimed in his Caught Offside column that he isn't aware of any negotiations and Barca count on Garcia, although Financial Fair Play rules (FFP) could change the situation. He said: "Despite rumours about Arsenal, I’m not aware of negotiations for Eric Garcia.

“At the moment, Barca are counting on him and he also had an excellent game as defensive midfielder yesterday; not time for negotiations now. Let’s see if it could change for Financial Fair Play in the summer."

It remains to be seen which route Arsenal could take their summer business down in the next few months, however it's still early stages before then.
