Arsenal enter £50m transfer battle to hijack Premier League rival move amid Edu wish

Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow. The Gunners are understood to be keen on bringing a new central midfielder to the Emirates Stadium amid concerns about the fitness of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

Mikel Arteta's men have enjoyed a rather superior start to the 2022/23 season and find themselves occupying the top place in the Premier League table. The starting XI utilised throughout the first 14 games has rarely changed with the Gunners boss sticking with the same players in the league.

The method has obviously done the trick up until now but the need for quality off the bench will be called upon when Premier League football returns after the World Cup. With the second half of their league fixtures still to come, Arsenal will also compete in three cup competitions in 2023 and will ultimately need further squad depth should they compete.

Rumours linking players with a move to north London have continued to arise in the early days of December and a fresh name to be linked is Frankfurt's Sow. The Switzerland international has impressed with his performances in Bundesliga and joins teammates Jesper Lindstrom and Evan Ndicka in being tipped to move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to Sport BILD, the Gunners have joined Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest in the race to land the all-round midfielder. Sow is entering the final 18 months of his contract in Frankfurt and could be sold next month to ensure the Bundesliga side receive a reasonable transfer fee.

However, the report states that a 'lucrative' would need to be offered to convince the Europa League holders to sell. Over the summer, it's understood Forest placed a €50million (£43million) package - including a £17million transfer fee- to land Sow as the newly-promoted side brought in over 20 players.

Sow is in action for the Swiss national team tomorrow against Portugal for a place in the quarter-final. The 25-year-old has started all three of Nati's group games, taking up a more advanced role in front of Arsenal's Granit Xhaka and Forest's Remo Freuler.
