Arsenal dressing room had perfect response to Ruben Neves celebration remarks

Ruben Neves was made to leave the Emirates with his tail between his legs after Arsenal gave him the perfect response to his remarks about over-celebrating.

The Gunners beat Wolves on Thursday in a dramatic 2-1 win, having also won the reverse fixture at Molineux only a fortnight prior - both key clashes in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.

It was then when Neves criticised Mikel Arteta and co by saying "it was like they won the league."

But after Thursday's second meeting, Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney was asked if he and his teammates were aware of the remarks going into the game and told his club's website : "Yeah, we would have been for sure.

"Obviously everyone knows the comments that were made. So we knew they were going to come out and try to beat us, and get their revenge. But we stood up to that challenge.

"They had a good start and got the goal they needed and wanted. But after that we controlled most of the game."

Tierney, forced off in the 92nd minute due to injury, added: "It's a massive win, massive three points. Coming from behind isn't easy in this league, especially against a team like Wolves.

"So we showed character tonight, we showed mentality, and I think we got what we deserved in the end. We never gave up for one second. As I say, a few of us believed we were going to get that goal, most of us believed.

"I think when you've got the belief anything can happen. That showed tonight."

His manager, Arteta, also commented on the topic of celebrations and made it clear that he wants the Gunners to enjoy any good result with their supporters.

"I encourage them to celebrate every victory. Because you can tell how difficult it is in this game to win football matches," the Arsenal boss explained post-match.

"Our supporters are the same, every time we win we should celebrate because when you lose or draw you know the faces are always [sad]."

To make the night even sweeter for Gunners fans, Neves was forced to admit his side were not good enough to deserve three points.

"We didn't deserve to win to be honest," the 24-year-old said. "We had some good chances to score, but we didn't play well. They took us back all the game after going 1-0 up and we just defended.

"When you don't have the ball against these kind of teams you will suffer. We need to manage the ball better against these kinds of teams.

"This was an important game for us and for the league but this is the Premier League and everyone will drop points. We just want to go game-by-game. We will look at ourselves and do better."
