Arsenal could miss out on Gabriel Martinelli competition as Liverpool join Wilfried Zaha race

You'd be hard pushed to find a transfer window over the last three years where Wilfried Zaha hasn't been linked with a move to Arsenal. With the forward into the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace, the rumour mill is turning once again.

For all the links with Zaha over the past few years, he did actually nearly join Arsenal in 2019. In April, the 29-year-old told Jamie Carragher's The Greatest Game Podcast: "I had a conversation with the manager actually. [Unai] Emery was just like, ‘We don’t really need to go through much’.

He was like, ‘Yeah we’d love to have you’ and I was just like, ‘Yeah I’d love to come’. Obviously, it was up to the club who they chose and they chose [Nicolas] Pepe over me.”

With Zaha in scintillating form at the start of the season for Palace, he is being linked with some of the Premier League's top clubs once again. He's scored five goals and claimed one assist in nine league appearances.

It could be argued that European clubs have the advantage over Premier League sides when it comes to signing Zaha. Clubs abroad will be able to open pre-contract talks with Zaha in January if he doesn't sign a new deal at Palace - something English clubs won't be able to do.

However, according to a report from Calciomercato, the winger is keen on a move to Liverpool. It could be argued that the Reds still need a replacement for Sadio Mane and Zaha is reportedly 'very fond' of Jurgen Klopp's side.

There have been reports that Arsenal are looking to add a wide player to their squad to compete with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, but Mikel Arteta and Edu may have to turn Zaha's head if they go back in for him.
