Arsenal confirm Reiss Nelson contract talks with Ainsley Maitland-Niles among Gunners players released

Arsenal have confirmed that Ainsley Maitland-Niles will leave the club at the end of the month, as contract talks with Reiss Nelson continue.

Maitland-Niles spent the season on loan at Southampton, starting 13 times in the Premier League, and announced in April that he would not be returning to north London, with his contract up this summer.

“It’s been a great journey but it has come to an end now,” he told The Athletic. “It’s time for a fresh start and to find a new home.”

The versatile 25-year-old joined Arsenal at the age of six, coming through the club’s academy and lifting the FA Cup in 2020, starting at wing-back in the final.

Nelson is also out of contract at the end of June but remains in talks with the Gunners, with it reported that there is a verbal agreement in place over a new four-year deal.

Zach Awe, Joel Ideho, George Lewis, Matt Smith and Tom Smith will all leave as free agents too, with Mana Iwabuchi, Rafaelle Souza and Fran Stenson departing the women’s team.
