Arsenal confirm Jurrien Timber squad number after £38.5m deal with Ajax

Arsenal have confirmed Jurrien Timber will wear the number 12 shirt.

The Dutchman completed a move that could be worth up to £38.4m on Friday, signing a long-term contract with the club.

Timber is expected to be followed by Declan Rice as the Gunners continue to invest following last season’s Premier League title challenge.

Kai Havertz has already arrived in a £65m move from Chelsea and now the focus shifts to selling players.

Manchester United had targeted former Ajax defender Timber last summer but it is Mikel Arteta who welcomes the 22-year-old to the Premier League.

Arsenal are expected to play their new signing at right-back this season, though the Netherlands international can also operate centrally.

Handed the No.12 shirt, it has previously been worn by William Saliba, Willian, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Oliver Giroud.

The Gunners are due to jet out to the United States on Sunday for a pre-season tour.
