Arsenal 'complete' signing of George Lewis following two-week trial, former club claim

Arsenal have completed the signing of Norwegian teenager George Lewis, according to a director at his former club.

The 19-year-old reportedly impressed during a trial with the Gunners in March before the coronavirus pandemic and now looks set to link up with the north London outfit on a free transfer.

Lewis is out of contract after spending the last two seasons playing in Norway's amateur leagues and spent some time training with League One outfit Ipswich Town earlier this season.

While Arsenal are yet to officially confirm the transfer, Jostein Jensen - sporting director of Lewis' former club Fram Larvik - claims the youngster has signed for the Premier League club.

“Yes, we can confirm that. I have been told that he has signed for Arsenal,” Jensen told Norwegian outlet VG.

Lewis, born in Kigali, Rwanda, began his footballing career playing in the youth set-up at Tromso 2 and has spent the majority of his youth career playing in the Norwegian third tier.

While relatively unknown in his age group, it is believed Lewis impressed Arsenal coaches during a two-week trial earlier in March.

He is expected to link up with Steve Bould's Under-23s development squad, rather than the first team, should the deal be confirmed.
