Arsenal coach sends James Maddison Instagram message after Leicester thrash Tottenham

Arsenal Under-18s manager Jack Wilshere has taken to Instagram to show James Maddison some love after the Leicester star was instrumental as his side defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs broke the deadlock early on through central midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, although Foxes soon struck back through a thunderous Nampalys Mendy. Maddison then gave the hosts before Kelechi Iheanacho netted a third before half-time. Winger Harvey Barnes finally rounded off the scoring after the break, an emphatic victory that sends Brendan Rodgers' side up to 13th in the league standings.

After the full-time whistle, former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who is now the manager of the Gunners' Under-18 side, wrote: "player" with a heart eyes emoji under Maddison's recent Instagram post. Wilshere's message will certainly please Arsenal fans, with the former Hale End academy graduate consistently taking sly digs at their north London rivals in recent years.

The ex-England international famously claimed he wouldn't put any Spurs players in a combined XI between the two teams just last year, failing to name even Harry Kane. “I’m not taking any Tottenham players right now,” Wilshere told talkSPORT in January 2022.

“All Arsenal. Harry Kane would be the one closest to it. But, at the minute, he’s not really doing it.”

“Ramsdale. Tomiyasu. We’re playing a 4-2-3-1. Ben White and Gabriel centre-backs. Left-back, Kieran Tierney. It has to be KT.

"Right now, because Partey is not there, I’m going Lokonga and Xhaka in midfield. Odegaard in the No. 10 position. Right-wing, I’m going Smith Rowe. Saka on the left-wing.

“Then Lacazette up front as skipper.”
