Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham tipped to fight for Premier League title amid transfer business

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have been tipped to fight Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title following their summer transfer business.

The Gunners have signed five new players with Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos joining the club. The Blues have signed the same number of players, spending over £100million, with Marc Cucurella following Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Gabriel Slonina in making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Spurs have had the busiest summer transfer window, bringing in six new players in Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet and Fraser Forster. Former Arsenal star Alan Smith has tipped all three London clubs to close the gap to the top two after impressive transfer windows so far.

Speaking to Sky Bet, Smith revealed expectations are high for Arsenal fans this season and tipped the Gunners, Chelsea and Spurs to close the gap to Liverpool and City. Smith said: “This season is a tough one because there’s a good gap between Manchester City and Liverpool and the chasers, as was proved in the Premier League table last season.

"That’s not to say they’ll always be up there. Football does go in cycles and who’s to say that Man City’s owners won’t move away because they feel their job’s been done so they won’t have quite that money or Pep Guardiola leaves and Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool?"

Smith admitted he can see the chasing pack closing the gap in the coming seasons. The Sky Sports commentator added: “Things can change, that’s the beauty of our league, we have got the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea with the potential to be vying for the title. Maybe not this season, but potentially there in the not-too-distant future.

“It’s easy for the points gap between the top two and the rest to develop. The chasing pack have got to try and stay in touch if they can and put a little bit of pressure on. Beating Liverpool and Man City just puts that little seed of doubt in those two teams’ minds perhaps. It’s a slow process, step by step as the seasons go on just narrowing that points gap each time.”

Arsenal start their campaign on Friday night against Crystal Palace, with Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko set to start after their moves from Manchester City. Chelsea travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton, whilst Spurs begin their season at home against Southampton.
