Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City in race for Premier League wonderkid before summer transfer window

Arsenal and Chelsea are both in the market of landing the next big footballing stars when it comes to transfer business. The idea of landing young talent that will play for the club for years to come isn't new, but in the age of big spending in the Premier League and rising transfer costs, the desire to sign wonderkids before competitors is heightened.

Arsenal's approach in bringing through Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli into the side underlines this as part of their title charge. A large core of the side are still in their early twenties, showing longevity to any dynasty they wish to create while also saving plenty of money in the transfer market.

Building a similar structure is now the challenge for Chelsea under their new owners Boehly-Clearlake, who have a pointed strategy that will go down a similar route. The signings of Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke just underline the direction the club are going in.

However, the large money spent by the Blues just to land such talent that are yet to be fully proven at the top level over a consistent period just shows how the market has shifted. With that in mind, the summer will be another key time for the sides to land the wonderkids before they're spotted elsewhere.

One that has caught the eye this season has been Leeds United's Wilfried Gnonto, who signed for the club from FC Zurich for under £5million back in September. After an impressive campaign for the first-team, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Arsenal and Chelsea have joined Manchester City in their interest in the 19-year-old.

His key attributes are in ball carrying, showing a similar style to that of Jack Grealish in his ability to travel with the ball and earn plenty of fouls. While Leeds are in a precarious position regarding their battle against relegation, it remains to be seen whether any deal for the forward will be possible in the coming months.
