Arsenal captain Kim Little agrees new contract after injury blow confirmed

Arsenal captain Kim Little has signed a new contract with the club, despite being ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

The 32-year-old first joined the Gunners in 2008 and has gone on to make 290 appearances for the club over two spells in north London. Little is Arsenal's seventh all-time appearance holder and she's won six league titles, three FA Cups and five League Cups while at the club.

It was announced on Monday she had sustained a season-ending injury in their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final clash with Bayern Munich last month. The club expect her to be available when preparations for the 2023/24 season get underway and a contract extension for their current longest serving player will be a welcomed boost for Arsenal.

“I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Arsenal,” Little said. “Thinking back to when I first joined at the age of 17, I’m so proud of the progress that we have made together.

"Arsenal has been such an important part of my life and over time this club has become my home. It continues to be a privilege to represent Arsenal and I’m still so motivated to move this club forward and to be a part of its success.”

Head coach Jonas Eidevall added: “Kim is a world-class player and an exemplary professional. Her contribution here over many years has been outstanding and we are so pleased that she will continue to represent Arsenal for years to come.

"On and off the pitch, Kim is such an important part of what we are trying to achieve here at Arsenal Football Club so we are all delighted with this news.”

Arsenal are in Women's Super League action on Wednesday night with a crunch top-of-the-table clash with Manchester United before they take on Wolfsburg in the Champions League semi-finals later this week.
