Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal’s position at the top of the Premier League means they can target “another level of player” in the January transfer window.
Arteta wants to sign a winger to strengthen his squad, with Orlando City’s Facundo Torres and Mykhaylo Mudryk, of Shakhtar Donetsk, on their radar.
The Gunners are also interested in a new midfielder and left-sided centre-back, but that might have to wait until the summer as the club focuses on adding a winger.
Arsenal have made a brilliant start to the season. They are two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table with two matches to play before the World Cup break.
Arteta is keen to build on that position of strength and, while aware it is tricky to do business during the January window, he believes Arsenal can now target a higher calibre of player.
“The planning of that period is extremely difficult,” said Arteta. “First of all because we know the January window, how special it is, the opportunities that you have, the short window that you have.
“Once you get the player they are straight away competing, so there is not an adaptation process. And obviously with the position that we are in right now as well, it demands as well another level of player — and that player has to be available. We will look at everything and let’s see what we can do.”
