Arsenal can still complete another January transfer after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang announcement

Arsenal might not be done yet when it comes to January transfers.

Despite not adding to the first-team squad during the winter window, it was still a busy month for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu with as many as five players leaving either on loan or permanently ahead of Monday's deadline.

Five has since become six with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving and his move to Barcelona set to be officially announced in the coming hours as he's already trained with his new teammates.

Including the under-23s squad, it's 14 players that left Arsenal in some capacity in the winter transfer window.

This list also includes the likes of highly-rated goalkeeper Karl Hein who has joined Reading on loan and Tyreece John-Jules who will be spending the rest of the campaign with Sheffield Wednesday.

With that said, despite the transfer window in England being shut, the Gunners can still complete another January deal and they have a further week to do so - although it could be one more outgoing.

At some point in the next four months, Mohamed Elneny is expected to leave Arsenal.

His contract expires at the end of June and is effectively the fourth-choice central midfield option behind Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga having started just one Premier League game so far this season.

Granted that was away at Manchester United, but there has been talk of the Egypt international departing the Emirates Stadium earlier than expected.

Last month, as per Sport360Egypt, Fenerbahce were said to have requested a meeting with Arsenal to discuss negotiations about signing Elneny immediately.

Of course, there hasn't been any movement yet, although there's still plenty of time to reach an agreement as the winter transfer window in Turkey closes on February 8.

In addition, despite Elneny being on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, this factor won't jeopardise a potential move to Turkey even if Egypt reach the final as it takes place two days before the transfer window in Turkey shuts.

Were Arteta and Edu to allow Elneny to leave, it would be somewhat of a risk as Arsenal are one Partey injury setback and a Xhaka suspension away from another midfield crisis.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles leaving, coupled with Partey and Elneny being away at the AFCON, Lokonga was the only senior option in the middle of the park for games against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Burnley last month.

This gamble backfired with the Gunners ending January out of both domestic cup competitions and losing some ground in the top-four race and they can't afford a repeat situation if they're to seal a return to Europe for next season.
