Arsenal can sign the 'next Patrick Vieira' this summer as Edu makes transfer decision

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing young Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, according to recent reports.

The two north London sides are currently locked in a tense battle to finish in the Premier League's top-four this season, with the Gunners currently three points ahead of their local rivals, who have also played one more league match this term. Now, L’Equipe, via GFFN, have reported that both teams are interested in signing Rennes starlet Ugochukwu this summer.

The 18-year-old has established himself as one of the best teenage talents in Ligue 1 this season, with Borussia Dortmund also said to be keen. The report also claims that the 6 ft 2 maestro is seen as the next Patrick Vieira, who clinched three Premier League titles during his time with the north London club.

football.london understands that Arsenal will look to bring in one central midfielder this summer, with AS Roma expected to pursue Granit Xhaka again at the end of the current campaign. The Serie A outfit attempted to sign the Swiss international last year before he eventually penned a new contract with the Gunners instead.

Xhaka will captain his national side on Saturday evening when they take on England, who will be without his Arsenal teammates Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale, who are missing the match through illness and injury respectively. Speaking ahead of the match, Xhaka said: “I think they are a very strong team with a lot of young players and they have experienced players as well. Xhaka added of what he expects from a heavily-rotated England team tomorrow.

He added: “They had a very good Euros at home and lost the final but I think that is it, we have to look after ourselves and try to beat England.”
