Serge Gnabry has been at the top of transfer headlines recently due to his ongoing contract situation with Bayern Munich, but this shouldn't put Arsenal on red alert.
Despite the German showing excellent displays throughout his Bayern career, his goalscoring record last season was inferior to Nicolas Pepe, who has struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a player who is prolific in front of goal, and that should be the main focus for the summer transfer window.
While Gnabry would certainly improve the Gunners, Arteta already has strength in depth in the wide positions, and it is not a position he should look to prioritise.
Gnabry scored 11 goals during the 2020/21 season, with ten of these coming in the Bundesliga and the other in the DFB-Pokal.
Pepe managed to score 16 goals last season, 10 coming in the league which is the same amount as Gnabry, and the other six strikes in the Europa League.
The Ivorian has certainly struggled since his major £72 million switch from Lille in 2019, and it is clear that Gnabry would be able to offer the Gunners more of an attacking threat having played an integral part in Bayern Munich's Champions League success in 2020.
However, Arteta requires an attacker who has the guaranteed potency in front of goal due to the lack of quality that is currently available in the forward positions.
Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are the only strikers at the club, but the two players have recorded just three open play goals between them in the Premier League this campaign.
The Gunners seemed strong in this position at the start of the season because Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Folarin Balogun were still options for Arteta, but this has now been halved.
It is set to get even more daunting in the summer, as Lacazette and Nketiah are also expected to leave due to their contracts expiring in less than six months time.
Gnabry would be an excellent signing if Arsenal already had a successful attacking structure in place, but due to their ongoing striker crisis, a centre forward should be prioritised over the signing of the German who does not always guarantee goals.
