Manchester United have joined the race to sign Arsenal target Youri Tielemans, according to recent reports.
Goal reported last month that the Gunners held talks with Tielemans’ representatives during the January transfer window at the club's London Colney training base.
The Belgian international, who is valued at £49.5million on Transfermarkt, is into the final 17 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium and the Daily Star have now claimed that United have identified the player as an alternative to the likes of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.
It is not the first time that both the north Londoners and the Red Devils have pursued the same player, with the Premier League giants both chasing Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey back in 2008.
Gary Neville gave the then-Cardiff youngster a tour of the club's Carrington training complex and the United website even confirmed the club had agreed a fee with the Bluebirds.
However, legendary Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger eventually convinced Ramsey to make the move to the Emirates Stadium before enjoying an extremely fruitful time with the Gunners, scoring the winner in the 2014 and 2017 FA Cup finals.
"I went up there [Carrington] to see the facilities and I went to see Arsene Wenger," Ramsey told Sky Sports back in 2016.
"He did a lot to try and get me to this club. As a 17-year-old, flying out on a private jet to his hotel [in Switzerland for Euro 2008] was surreal but I think I made the right decision.
"I just felt a bit more wanted by Arsenal and by the boss."
The Gunners will hope that they can convince Tielemans to make the same decision this summer if both sides do decide to pursue the 24-year-old.
