Arsenal break unwanted 10-year Premier League record following impressive victory over Chelsea

Following 11 Premier League wins out of a possible 13, Arsenal have defied all the odds placed on them at the start of the season and sit top of the Premier League table with a title charge in sight. The Gunners battling victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday saw them leapfrog Manchester City with just one game to go until the domestic break for the World Cup.

Gabriel Magalhaes netted the only goal of the game poking Bukayo Saka's corner into the roof of the net sending the away end delirious and the Gunners were able to repel any Chelsea attacks for the remaining half an hour.

Following the game, Mikel Arteta was quick to praise his teams performance alongside those supporting them from the stands.

He said: "We are a young team, but we showed a lot maturity today, a lot of composure, a lot courage to play on this stage the way we have played. That’s easy to say but actually very difficult to do. I think the boys were absolutely phenomenal today."

On the fans, he added: "Our supporters have been absolutely phenomenal. They have transformed the mood of the club, that’s my opinion, and they have transferred the belief of the players. To share that with them at the end there is really special. I had my family there, I had my son there in the middle of the crowd, so it was really great.

The majority of Arsenal's better performances have come on home soil but their controlling display against the Blues was perhaps their best of the season and it seems the Gunners have finally developed the ability to consistently beat the teams challenging for the same spots as them.

This fact has been further highlighted by a post on social media by @OptaJoe, the official Twitter page for Stats Perform’s English football coverage, which stated that the Gunners had won three consecutive Premier League games against fellow 'Big 6' opposition for the first time since 2012.

While Arsenal lost to Manchester United earlier this season, they have since beaten both Liverpool and Spurs at the Emirates Stadium and broke the record after their narrow victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, matching the run from 2012 where the Gunners beat Spurs 5-2, Liverpool 2-1 and Manchester City 1-0.
