Some players got their first taste of FIFA 23 today, and fans were left shocked over the appearance of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
FIFA 23 will be released worldwide and in the UK on Friday, September 30, 2022, but players who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition or are subscribed to EA Play can access the game today. Many players have rushed to play with their favourite team, but fans have been left puzzled over Arteta's FIFA 23 character.
Out of the 20 Premier League managers, each one looks like themselves, or at least similar - apart from Arteta. EA has failed to get an accurate representation of the Spaniard over the last few FIFA titles, which is confusing due to Arteta having an accurate face scan from when he was a player in FIFA 16.

For most big teams and big players, EA will take face scans of players and managers to get the most accurate representation of them for their in-game faces. This is done by making a map of a person's face using photographs - a process called photogrammetry.
But, it appears that Arteta may not have had his face scan done for FIFA 23, leaving EA to try and replicate his face from scratch. And, unfortunately, it's not a good look for the Gunners manager.
Arteta's FIFA 23 self looks nothing like him, from the hair, facial structure, eyes and mouth to his posture. It's a struggle to find any resemblance between the two.
What makes it even more difficult to understand how EA have made such a mess of Arteta is that the Spaniard had a face scan back on FIFA 16 when he was a player, which looked much more like the 40-year-old.
Hopefully, EA will act on the feedback from social media and update the manager's appearance soon.
FIFA 23 is developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and will be available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PS4, and Xbox One on September 30. Early access for FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition begins on September 27, 2022.
