Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta sent emphatic Tottenham transfer message over Nottingham Forest favourite

Former Nottingham Forest and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell says the Gunners should be going all out to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough this summer.

Spence is currently on loan at Forest where he is currently thriving under head coach Steve Cooper and was superb in the Reds' 1-0 FA Cup victory over the Gunners earlier this month.

Since then, the full-back who can play as a winger has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Spurs and Arsenal both linked with a move.

And Campbell has been hugely impressed by Spence and believes it would be a good bit of business for boss Mikel Arteta to add him to the squad and replace Cedric Soares.

"I think Cedric’s race has been run at Arsenal,” he told Football Insider.

“Spence really impressed me in that game against Arsenal. I know we weren’t at our best but he was brilliant nonetheless.

“He showed such great speed, control, passing and defensive qualities in that game. He is still a young man as well so he is only going to get better.

“I think it would be very smart business to get him in. He’d give Mikel Arteta another option, that’s for sure.

“Get him in and beat Spurs to the deal."

Middlesbrough had wanted to recall the defender this month but were unable to do so as the player wanted to stay at Forest.

“I’ve watched him, and he’s doing well and he’s happy,” said Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder.

"He wants to stay there for the second half of the season. I know that’s not the be-all and end-all, and we have to make the decision that fits right by us

“We’ve made the decision that Djed stays out there until the end of the season.

“Financially, we had the ability to improve the contract financially that benefited us, that allows us to maybe invest elsewhere and give us that opportunity to improve the standard of player we’re trying to get in to this football club by allowing Djed to go out.”
