Arsenal have been given a boost after Mikel Arteta confirmed Ethan Nwaneri is fit to face Nottingham Forest.

Nwaneri sparked concern among Arsenal fans when he was substituted in the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham.

Explaining the decision to take off Nwaneri, Arteta said after that West Ham game that he thought the 17-year-old was just suffering from “fatigue”.

Arsenal have assessed Nwaneri this week and Arteta has confirmed good news ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League trip at the City Ground.

Arteta said: "Ethan, he was just cramping [against West Ham]. Obviously his loads has been very different in recent weeks, but he is fine."

Nwaneri’s fitness is a boost for Arsenal, who are already without forwards Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Saka and Martinelli will return for the run-in but Havertz and Jesus have been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Arsenal travel to Forest looking to bounce back after they slipped to 11 points behind leaders Liverpool at the weekend.

Defeat against third-placed Forest would be another major setback to Arsenal in their bid to hunt down Liverpool, who host Newcastle at Anfield on Wednesday.
